Last April, during a marathon of camping with our friends Jim and Debbie, I had the half-baked idea that we should camp out in line overnight to have campground reservations at the beach for 4th of July.

Well, the night I vowed to do this was like 30-something degrees and I bailed and came home. Who needs the beach? We do that every year! We were lucky enough to be invited by J&D for a true "hometown" 4th of July celebration in Ramona instead. And it lived up to the hype...

a parade through the neighborhood with tractors of all sizes...

horses (of all sizes).... Iwo Jima...

followed by amphibious assault, I mean swimming, at the club...

a yummy grilled dinner and dessert...and the longest, most spectacular fireworks display we have even seen. I am not sure if it was because there is no light pollution, but I swear these things were bigger and brighter then I can ever remember (also could be the new glasses I got in March...hmmm).
It reminded us of past Independence Day celebrations in Monterey. All in all, it was a wonderful day and we returned home happy and content. Thanks Jim, Deb, Ben and Cody (and Charlie and Henrietta, too!)
