Thursday night, we went to the movies, had popcorn for dinner and saw "Wall-e" and "Hancock." We weren't planning on seeing a double feature, but we did and everyone had fun.
Then Friday was our 4th of July extravaganza. Today, we were off to the San Diego County Fair. There were lots of cool exhibits. In the livestock barn, we saw tons of cows, sheep, pigs, turkeys and chickens, including some of the FFA animals raised by Kyle's friends. Kelsey can't wait to raise an animal in high school (though we keep reminding her of what happens to them after the fair).
We were entertained with magic shows and lumberjills (chicks with axes) and the kids rode a few rides. We saw pig races, dog races and yes, even a worm race. Kyle even had an entry in the worm race, "Bob," who placed fourth and earned Kyle a ribbon. He was beaten by a worm named "Gooey."
I think one of the highlights of the day was jamming as a family in the "Rock Band" exhibit. While we have almost every video game system there is, we have not added the Rock Band game...yet. Kyle had lead guitar, Kelsey played the bass and Tim rocked the drums. I had vocals by default. It was a blast! The crowds were small so after we warmed up with "Should I stay or should I go?" we got back in line. The guy wanted us to perform on the main stage (one group faces the audience, while three others play backstage behind a curtain). The boys were all for it, but the girls had a bit of stage fright. So behind the curtain we went...where we scored quite high on Radiohead's Creep ...man, we should have done the main stage! I think it is just a matter of time before we own that game - it is a blast!
After several hours, some corn dogs and an attempt to win a goldfish, we limped back to the car, worn out and happy. It was definitely a great weekend! Here are a few photos taken with my phone...
