After Mount Vernon, we headed into the city to show the kids some of the sites. We visited the Air Force Memorial (very cool, like three jet contrails - with a missing man formation - shooting into the sky. From there you can see the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetary.

Then we headed over to the Pentagon. On the side where the jet struck the building, they have erected a monument. Having had friends who were here in the building on 9/11, I was extremely moved. All of the individual monuments are engraved with names of those who died here. The monuments face one way for those killed on the plane and the opposite direction for those killed in the Pentagon. Each one also has a small reflecting pool of water underneath. Moving. Emotional. Breathtaking.

The last photo is of the Air Force Memorial from the Pentagon.
