Day 3 was cold, wet and dreary. We were told that if we wanted to go up in the Washington Monument, we would need to line up for 1.5 to 2 hours before they opened for ticket sales. So, at the crack of dawn, we were on the Metro into the city and stood for 90 minutes in the rain...but we got tickets!

We spent the morning browsing, I mean running, through as many of the Smithsonian museums as we could. We saw the Natural History, American History and Air & Space - and there were so many museums we just could not fit in. Tim met us in the afternoon and we raced to make our appointment to tour the Capitol. Well worth doing.

Then, it was back to the monument and the White House visitors' center. We were exhausted. (I used mapmyrun and determined that we walked about 6-7 miles today. No wonder we were so tired!

Last stop, another Metro train into Maryland and dinner with our old neighbors and friends, the Spratts! Loved seeing their boys and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I dozed off on the train ride back to Tim's apartment - thank goodness Kels was alert and got us off at the right stop!
